As I've said before here, I'm planning on buying the new GTS w/ sun and sound/nav and tech in the next couple of months. I've only bought one other car in my life (my '03 galant two years ago, which has been an ultra-reliable, great car, wish I could keep it, but I love this new lancer too much), and I was just wondering what a general rule is for the price point on new cars? I've heard $500-$1000 below invoice, but I'm skeptical I can get that (around $19,500). What does everyone usually aim for? What usually works out for you? Thanks.

I got an ES (MRSP 17,500) for $1000 under invoice + $500 extra off for graduating in one year = 15,200. after taxes, document fees, etc, the price of the car was 16,600, and after financing, FINAL was 18,000. My guess is that you can get a GTS for ~20,000, just wait for a good deal to pop up.

Good point KB. I'm hoping the dealers here in GA are having a harder time selling them, I've yet to see one on the road, so maybe I'll get lucky.

QUOTE(mezzedupdream @ May 31 2007, 11:38 PM) I got my gts with the sun and sound package for 19,600 out the door, cash.
well, it would keep it simpler if everyone could just say what their "price" on the car was with installed options, then list the fees the dealer included, and forget about the "out the door" pricing. Taxes change a lot state to state, and some dealers charge document and titling fees that also change? That said, anything under invoice sounds great as long as invoice does not include $1000 for paint protection, fabric protection, VIN engraving in windows, etc. I am personally looking for an ES CVT, and was considering putting the NAV unit in? Any ideas in the Dallas area what I could expect to pay? thanks pumpkin

This is the same price I was going to pay for the car with the same options. But I ended up leasing the car for 4 years with a buyout around $7,500 at the end. If I would have financed the car straight out, after all the payments it would have been around the same price as leasing it for 4 and buying it out at the end. But now I can just get something new in 4 years if I choose.......Maybe a 2012 Lancer........

Dallas area here.......
Well I did not do as well as $1000 below invoice, which I think is just incredibly good, but I got my ES CVT black right at invoice. No options at all, the MSRP was 17,515 after the destination charge was added in, and I wound up paying 16,716 before taxes of 6.25%. The fees added on seemed normal, $213 in all but at least the finance guy did not tell me they had "etched the VIN numbers everywhere and I owed 'em" type garbage. Thanks to all who posted, it was really helpful when I went.
I got this at the Plano Mitsu dealership. Really nice and easy going operation as opposed to some.
