Hey all, im new here and i really only came on to help out my mom. She has a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander and her air conditioner isn't working. It goes for about 5 min after initial start up of the day, then starts blwoing hot air. It will randomly starts blowing cold air again at random times of the day. It gives no warnign or anything it just does it. Also the "A/C" button flashes, i am not sure of why that happens either. Sometimes i can play with it and it blows cold air again, but most of the time it's all hot air. Can anyone offer some assistance or any reasoning for this happening and what i should do?

Thnx in advance! :57:

first, check the pressure of air conditioning refrigerant, all cars have a pressure sensor and if is low the A/C compressor shutdown just for security, second , if your A/C have an "auto option" may be the computer or inside tempeture sensor be damage., if you A/C not have an "auto option" may be the problem will be wiring and that is really bad.

if the A/C button flashes first check the computer of the car with certified mitsubishi tecnichian maybe he give you an error code ,then follow the other tips.

hope this helps you :57:

I am having the same problem with my 2003 Outlander. The AC blows cool air for the first 5-10 minutes, then gradually the air becomes warmer. Then the AC light begins to blink and I can't get the cool air to come back on. I went today and had the recalled COOLING FAN CONTROLLER replaced by the dealership at no charge, but that didn't fix the AC problem. They said the AC clutch was bad, possibly the compressor too. Does that sound right?

I am having the same exact problem with my a/c. Did anyone find out the problem? Now I'm having the service engine soon light on. I didn't know if maybe they were related

I've got an 03 with 112000 miles on it with the same AC problems. The parts have been ordered (compressor coil) and should be here today, thursday 06/12/08. I'll let you know if this resolves the issue.

Did the new parts work? I am going to try to get my fixed on 6/19/08. If the parts you ordered fixed your car that would be great help.

Yep. It's fixed. The A/C compressor clutch was replaced at a price of $569. I'll be eating in for the next few weeks. There is a cheaper fix for $80-$100. You can just have your system re-charged. That'll last for awhile. Maybe one week, maybe one year. I had that done to mine last year, mid summer and it just quit on me last week. Good luck. Not sure what the prices will be in your hood. I live in NC.

i have an 04 outlander with the same exact problem but recharging it did not help it at all. I just had the shop look at it and they said the compressor and the clutch need to be changed and the cheapest they could find were used ones for $560

I just had my a/c compressor clutch repaired. With labor and parts it cost me $840.00. I had an internal leak in the compressor and the clutch was bad. My mechanic checked with the dealer and they wanted $1200 for compressor with clutch. He found the same part off a wrecked Outlander with 10,000 miles for $250. My biggest labor cost was taking out the dashboard

My air now works great.

Jamie
