Hi All,
newbie here who needs some wisdom bestowed!

I am looking at buying a 2002 1.6 Carisma Classic, 5 door with 75k miles on the clock.
Not sure of service history yet, but what should I look out for with model, mileage and year?

It is very clean inside and out, but the mielage concerns me slighlty, though it is recommended by a friend in the trade.
Haven't owned a Mitsubishi in a while. Last once was 1990 Lancer hatchback, 1.3 petrol that was bullet proof.

All comments gratefully received,

Cheers,
A

Check that the timing belt has been changed, this should have been done at around 50k the 1.6 engine is pretty bullet proof and you should have no problems with the carisma

Thanks for the response mate,

the timing belt is a condition of sale, in that it is either verified as having been changed or will be changed before I get it.
Excellent, it sounds like a good one.

Cheers,

Well I went ahead and got it, instead of a Classic though, it is a Mirage.
Overall I'm very happy as there was a full Mitsubishi stamped service history to 61k an it was on 79k when I got it. It then got a timing belt and full service and NCT (Irish version of MOT).
It did suffer the driver's window switch problem, but the whole console was changed as a condition of sale.

Only one or two minor niggles now. The rear window wiper (it's a hatchback) seems to only wipe half of its sweep. The outer part doesn't seem to make proper contact with the window. I have changed the whole thing, blade and frame, but it made no difference.
And secondly, the lights onwarning on opening the driver's door doesn't seem to work.
I will have to investigate.

Well,
I have sorted out all of the minor niggles with my Carisma.

The rear window wiper just needed a bit more tension on the wiper arm and it now works fine.

The CT setting on the central display has now gone and the time is set manually as opposed to via RDS (which was always wrong and bugged the hell out of me!) and I fixed the non working lights on alarm.

The drivers side door open switch had corroded inside. I opened it up and cleaned up the contacts and dowsed it with WD-40. Once reinstalled the light came on to indicate driver's door open and the warning tone sounded for the lights left on.

Score!

I have the original works owners manual for his car if anyone needs some stuff scanned for reference too.

Cheers,
A
