hi folks

I might be purchaseing a lpg (duel fuel) outlander.

its mint, low mileage and a wee bit more expensive that what i was originally intending to spend!.

what sort of mpg should i be able to expect on lpg? lpg is 41p /litre so i reckoned if it returns 20 - 25mpg on petrol, lpg will give the equivalent of 45mpg - does this sound right?

any general advice on fuel consumption and outlanders appreciated!

thanks

;)

Hi Recardo

Had my duel fuel outtie since Dec 05 and it has consistently given 24/25 mpg on LPG. Great car, only two niggles, one poor turning circle the other is it is hard to keep ones trouser legs from rubbing against the cill when getting out of the car.

My experience is about the same as Summerhouses'. Had my Outie since Sept 04, and the gauge tells me I'm averaging 25.5 mpg. Great to hear you can get lpg for 41p, though - send some down here, as I haven't paid less than 46p for ages!

The turning circle is a nuisance; I've also found that the (totally pointless) rear spoiler is too fragile to take through an automatic car wash, but it's no big deal, and the car has given comfortable trouble-free motoring for 65,000 so far!

thanks for the replies guys - good to know you are both happy with yours, turning circle isnt an issue - i used to have a vr4 and its was worse!

did the test drive today, so just mulling over the figures etc ;)

am i right in saying approx 24/25mpg (on LPG) will equate to the equivalent of high 40's in petrol terms?
edit: I'm assuming you guys have the Mitsubishi LPG conversion from the factory? roughly how many miles do get out an tank of LPG?

thanks!

To be honest, I've noticed no difference between petrol and lpg consumption, so if you're paying half the price for lpg, that's the equivalent of 50 mpg.

And yes, it is the factory-fitted version, which I've had from new. Bear in mind that only about 80% of the lpg tank is usable (also varies according to temperature - from 'empty', my tank can take 50-65 litres to 'fill'), so my range would typically be about 250 miles - but of course you have the usual petrol tank as back-up for the same distance again.

Three other tips with the factory-fit (1) the warning light comes on when you have 50-80 miles left, so don't panic! (2) when you switch from one to the other, it takes several miles (maybe 20 minutes?) for the gauge to accurately register the fuel that you've switched to, and (3) if you do run out of lpg, make sure you press the flashing green button to force it over to petrol before you fill up with lpg, otherwise you might stall the engine as you are pulling away from the filling pump! (as happened to me with embarrasing consequences several times before I worked it out!)
