Hi -

Q1. - If memory serves me on the variable valve engined Outie all four rear lights come on when you turn the lights on. My 04 (non variable valve engine) only the two outer lights come on when you turn the lights on. The inner light is reserved just for the brakes. Can I put a twin filament light globe (bulb) in this position (brake light) and have all four lights illuminated when I switch the lights on?

Q2. - I replaced the rear lights and the brake globes (all 4) with LED 's. Looks good. However until I went back to a filament globe in one of the brake lights, the cruise control refused to work. Apparent it believed that the brakes were on! The clue was that the two brake lights had a slight glow whenever the ignition was on. Any explanation?

Thanks

The 04 Outlander has night lights outside on a dual filament bulb but only one filament is wired. The inside bulb has only one filament for brakes only. You can add brakes to the outside bulb just by pulling back on the wire that is stuffed in the harness and with a quick connect you can wire it to the brake bulb, this will give you four brake bulbs upon braking ( 4 is better than 2 ). To add night light to the inner bulb your going to have to change the existing socket for a dual filament one(this might void warranty). If you go with amber blinker LED you will need to parrallel bulb with 7.5 ohms resistor at 25 Watts minimum (This is to keep blinking rate the same). For your question number 2 yes you are right about the cruise not working. This is a safety feature on Mitsubishi vehicles so that when you have a burnt brake light cruise ceases functionning to warn you of a burnt brakelight. So if you have a regular bulb and a LED the system detects as if you had a burnt bulb since the LED uses less than a watt to power up compared to 21 watts for regular 7443 bulb. Hope This helps.

Hi Albert!

Can you please tell us what is your solution for LED tail lamps? Is it some aftermatket product or is it done in your home workshop? If you can take some pictures of your home-made gadget or provide link to the manufacturer, I will appreciate it.

Hi Kemo I bought over the internet from superbrightleds.com - you can select vehicle / model year / light and then the led part number required. Cheers Al

[attachmentid=4318]Attached ImageI get mine from jpwarden (ebay)in Australia good stuff at good prices. I even modified a few 31mm festoons to fit in 194 wedge for my reading lamps (Xenon white) light is more directional and less bothersome to driver). My daughter can be reading her book on passenger side and I get absolutely no light or glare in my eyes.
