Hi,

apparently something went wrong with the steering coulomn of my L300 4WD. The garage will not search for the problem in the coloumn but proposes to replace the whole steering coulomn by a L300 2WD one (450 euros).

I ask myself if:
- this is possible (my L300 is a 1994 model)?
- repairing the problem inside my 4WD steering coulomn isn't a better/cheaper option?

Please a quick answer, my garage would like to order the column tomorrow

Thanks a lot

Greetings
450 Euro sounds like a lot of money for a coloumn when there is basically not much to go wrong inside of one.

You have not described any symptoms so I assume other than a catastrophic failure of the shaft the only parts that would fail are the bearings and that would only happen after a considerable milage. Other than that the only other thing that could fail would be the universal joint at the bottom of the shaft, assuming you have the short column (multi piece) This would result in a considerable amount of freeplay in the steering wheel .

I would be inclined to seek a Second opinion on whether your column is repairable or not.........Is a second hand one an option? They are not that difficult to change

Good luck
Ken
