Just how un-popular is diesel in the U.S anyway? Is it much cheaper than gas?
Wouldnt it be a good move to over a diesel in U.S now?
It will never happen. Diesel here is only marginally cheaper (5 - 10%)... so there's no real incentive. Plus, since people are not accustomed to diesel engines in everyday cars, they tend to think of those enormus GM or Dodge pick-ups with diesel truck engines (and the truck sound that comes with it) or your average city bus when you mention diesel.
Also know that gas is much cheaper over here... right now, we pay a tad over 1$CAN a liter... that's almost half a pound. I bet you guys pay much more closer to a pound, right? And in the US, gas is even cheaper...
And diesel would never be associated with performance in the North-American market... and performance is what sells cars here. Just think that my 3.0l, 220HP Outlander is seen as second best here because the Mazda SUV is more powerful (260HP turbo engine)... and you'll understand what I mean.
The previous generation Outlander was seen as a slow car with it's anemic 2.4l, 160HP engine... that's why they had to upgrade big time if they wanted to gain market shares.
It's a very different place out here as far as cars are concerned... never apply european way of thinking to N/A cars marketing (that's valid for everything else BTW).
