i have a 92 SL and i
want to get a new shift boot cause mine is old and falling apart..
but i cant change just the shift boot
if i want to change it, the whole top (or cover) of the shifter comes off...
where u can see into the shifter (gearbox?)
my question is if i can go to the dealer and get the whole cover and shiftboot..
or is my shift boot and cover just f*cked up....
is anyone elses car like this?
i hope u guys understand what i meant...

Just go aftermarket. Momo is always nice. Expensive yes, but quality leather.

As for your original boot, all you have to do is remove the gear knob and the plastic shifter ring which holds the leather boot in and get that replaced. No need to replace anymore, unless that plastic piece is broken.

Good stuff. The short shifter I def recommend. I have one I got from 3sx and it changes the throw completely. They are on ebay and readily available. Not sure if I would buy from there. Like I do with everyone here, I would say go to www.3si.org and check the Parts For Sale section. They pop up every now and again. ;)

I had the same problem, my shift boot totally degraded. I found a great replacement on Ebay from "bonniebuttons". The thing was easy to install, fit perfectly, and looks great. Check out the photo.

i replaced mine with an oem boot and it only lasted a year or two before the leather started flaking or whatever it does. then i went the ebay route and couldnt be happier. it's lasted a couple of years already. i got a new boot when i got the new interior from leatherseats.com last year but i just left the ebay boot on cuz it still looks so good. i think the ebay one is made of vinyl is why it's lasting longer. i think it was about $20 vs $50 for oem.
