Don't know if it's the same, but I've got a 2001 Montero LTD and have inquired about replacing the oem stereo with an aftermarket unit myself. Circuit City techs advised me that I could purchase an adapter and use the existing built-in amp in the vehicle and not have to rewire to all speakers. I would be using the RCA outputs of the new deck to connect to the internal amp and by-pass the amp of the new deck. Hope this helps.
If the extented warranty won't cover replacing the deck, I'll have Circuit City install a new one.

I just bought Sony CD player for my 2001 Montero LTD. I replaced the deck myself. I used Metra smart cable adapters. The system works, but... ther is no sound! Anybody had a problem like this before?

If your stereo has RCA inputs, then here is what you need: "HRC-MIT 1990-98 Mitsubishi Radio Replacement Converter". It's din cable to RCA converter. I found one here: http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=517

I own a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport with a nice ground loop problem. I have installed a CarPC and started getting a pretty hostile ground loop. I have now removed all components except the stock amplifier and still receive a very loud ground loop. Is it possible that the stock amp has failed? I re-grounded the amp with larger cable 6 inches in length to a stripped surface ensuring that is not the issue.
