I took it to a detailer to get diamondkote put on it. I don't know if this happened from the detailer or just on its own, but the plastic front bumper where it meets the hood with the weather stripping in between. On the corner of that part the paint started to come off on the edge and could be easily removed with your thumb. I took it to the dealer and they will repaint it...phew. Also the cheap decals on the side door pillars can be easily damaged on the edge. I don't know if I damaged one of it was defective but the dealer is also replacing that as well...

Pretty happy with the warranty so far!

BUT-----paint coming off??? what will the rest of the car be like?

The affected areas in red and they are going to repaint the areas in green, I was hoping they would do the whole front bumper....get some of my rock chips repainted :P

I am the dealer you were dealing with. I wasnt going to say anythingyesterday but seeing as you posted it, I just wanted to clarify that there is nothing wrong with
the paint on the new lancers. I own a 08 GTS myself. the 2 spots on the edge of
the bumper piece have come off because the detail shop who polished your vehicle
over did it and got the paint on the plastic too hot and then caught the edge with
the buffing pad causing it to burn. I know this for a fact because back in my day
I was a detailer in fact I owned my own shop for a period of time. However,
because you purchased your vehicle from us and we take care of our customers as well as the fact that Mitsubishi is still leniant when it comes to warranty claims,
we will repaint the front clip and cover it under warranty even though technically
the paint is perfectly appllied. In fact, this will be my first time doing a warranty
claim for paint on a Mitsubishi in the 2.5 years I have worked here! As for the
blackout decal on the passenger side between the windows, that does not just
start peeling for no reason, It has been impacted against an object but we will replace it because we want to. Not because we have to.

Like I said, I will call you when the decal comes in and we will rebook you to get that taken care of but please dont scare people into thinking the paint is going to start coming off their vehicles. 99% of the supposed "warranty" issues we get are more due to the owner of the vehicle being at fault and not Mitsubishi.

I know next to nothing about paint. My understanding is all new cars (according to my dealer) are painted with water based paints. It is my understanding that these paints are nowhere near as wear resistant as the older paints. All modern car paint are LPU's with a clear coat that provides the finish and protection. Matching that paint product line would seem to be extremely important in any paint addition.

Is diamondkote a water based clear coat from the same paint manufacture? Who is the paint supplier for the Mitsubishi Lancer?

What a very small world.

Anywho...

I went to get the 3m clear bra done at a very reputable detailer...they do 400 000$ lambos.....so I did trust my car. And them as well :P

The manager there had a look at the paint and said it didn't look llike it was burnt off from a buffing wheel...but what do I know?

Also, when they took the license plate off they found it was rubbing, and rubbed, through the clearcoat under it... I wasn't too impressed since they (the dealer) installed it. There should have been a little piece of rubber or felt behind the plate to prevent it from rubbing.

Until I get it fixed I have taken the front plate off...and in BC you are supposed to have it so I will try and avoid cops or just come up with a nice story :D
