Alright, I have a 1999 Mitsu Eclipse with no mods (college girl, cant really afford to, plus not sure what I wanna do with it yet) Anyway, it squeals after it rains, or in early morning, that I kinda got used to and ignored it, but now it does it when I accelerate quickly and I'm wondering which belt it actually is. May seem like a no brainer for most but I'm still learning anything I can about my car...

UPDATE: Someonoe help please? I dont want to have to buy all the different belts just to find out I didnt need um!

well to be honest i cant really tell you wich one.anywho it could also be a pulley thats squeling not just your belt you would need to bring to a local shop to get looked at.but if i would guess it be the biggest one.the one that turns most of the pulley the motor one.your belt may be craking or its cracked replacing stops most squealing.in case it does not then it may be a pulley.one thing i forgot to mention the belt may be loose a bit as well.if it squeals when you hit the gas i'd say its the engine belt.

Thanks, I priced that one at a local shop (Auto-Mate) and it looks to be just 47 bucks for the part. I have an appointment in the morning to have my alternator fixed/replaced and wondered if that was a link to the problem. I have heard that Eclipses have problems with the alt. and trans (replaced my trans. twice only to find out the computer was fouled from the get go and had to replace that too... lil car is getting to be expensive) Also, are there any links on how to replace my gauges? I want to replace the ones I have with the GS white faced gauges, just a nicer look and what about my lights for ac controls and around the stereo, is that a part easily found on say, ebay?

i have 99 rs 5speed and no problems with either one of those.the only thing that broke was my timing belt but that was because i did not change it when i was supposed to.it was a 150$ job turned out to a 700$ job. for the guages you want the whole cluster or just the face cause a cluster will be more expensive. wich lights do you mean for the a/c and around your stereo.

HOw doe sthe face part work? If its less expensive that owuld rock, but if I have too the whole cluster. What I have been pricing online was around 20 bucks so I am guessing thats just the face.

The lights on my dash that are above my stereo and control heat and air and the like... if I change the gauges they will be the only orange and red lights left in the car...

Yes, plan on it. lol, because of that squeal I didnt run it at the track (I was just waiting for it to snap and GREAT there goes my car....) I'm worried about costs though. The belts are 47, 16 and 9 bucks per belt (the three I could find at Auto-Mate anyway) so the materials arent too bad, but having someone put them on might be costly... thank you though. The hard part is driving to and from work every day, its 40 miles! Poor little car doesnt know whats going on. Hopefully (soon) I can add some pics...
And does anyone have a link on how to replace the headlights and tail lights? A friend of mine just totalled his eclipse and is GIVING me his carbonfiber heads and tails (no cracks, no problems, they are perfect!) And one more thing, should I put the center piece in or just paint my stock one to match my car?

Sorry for all the questions, but FINALLY people who have eclipses and know things about them, I live in a truck haven (mustangs and camaros to, we call them ME-TOO cars "Hey I have a camaro/mustang" "No way ME TOO!")

Thank you all so much!!!

the rear lights just bolt off from the trunk there are two covers on each end that you take off and see the bolts.the center piece you have to take the whole center panel off.there are some clips at top and some at bottom just be careful when oulling so you wontt break anything.as far as the hvac i've seen some faces for them i'm just changing them all to blue l.e.d but have not finish yet.

for your squealing belt problem, its most likely your PS/AC belt. the alternator belt usually doesnt lose tension. on mine, i bought a new belt and put it on real tight, and the bearings on the tensioner pulley were bad, so the belt wobbled off and my car ate it. so i had to buy a new tensioner pulley assembly (114$), and another damn belt. if you know anyone whos savvy with cars who might know a thing or two about pulleys, have them check your out.

Mine no longer has the eclipse emblem (its about to say SHECLIPSE in vynl yes, I have my girly moments....)But I think the center piece of the CF tails looks like... a UFO really..Not sure if I want to put it in (they arent functioning right?)

Now the headlights, those are a pain in the a** to get off to my understanding, and my breakdown manual didnt do much to help it.

As for the belt, my car is at an alt. specialist today and they said they would look into the belts and let me know whats up. Makes me feel a little better (let the pros handle it once, and hopefully not again for a LONG time.)

Is there somewhere online that gives me an idea of all the little things I can take care of myself maintenance wise? (beyond changing oil, brakes, the usual) but things people overlook that cause problems later on (at least the ones that may be common to eclipses)

Again, I'm sorry for SO MANY ?'s but the excitement of finding Eclipse people with knowledge they are WILLING to share is awesome...
Thanks again
