Hi guys great site, I am looking for some help with timing marks on a Spacewagon 2.4 GDI. Oil leaked onto the belt contaminating it and causing the teeth to basically dissintegrate. All damage has been repaired but on reassembly I see that the oil pump can be timed out 360 degrees. According to my timing belt book there is a plug on the side of the block that has to be removed to align the oil pump but I have had no luck finding it. Another problem with it is that the oil light flickers on intermittently and the engine sounds a bit "cammy" so me suspects that the pump timing was wrong from the last time the timing belt was replaced which was 30,000 miles ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes oil pump usually just pumps but this is definetely timed. There is a timing mark on the casing and a matching 1 on the sprocket and its not the balance shaft. The exact words out of my Autodata book are [B] To check oil pump sprocket is correctly positioned: Remove blanking plug from cylinder block. Insert 8mm diameter phillips screwdriver in hole. Ensure screwdriver is inserted 60mm from face of cylinder block. If screwdriver can only be inserted 20mm: Turn oil pump sprocket 360 degrees. Insert screwdriver again.

I found a 14mm bolt that I thought was the blanking plug but my phillips screwdriver goes in 60mm regardless of which way I turn the oil pump sprocket. If I line up the sprocket one way it tends to fall away from the mark, if I turn it 360 it falls towards the mark so there is definitely a difference. If someone out there had a manual for this engine it should give more details. Thanks for your time...

Hi johnnymm,

There is a timing wheel for the oil pump which is driven by one of the timing belts and the oil pump can indeed be mistimed on the 2.4 gdi engine. I have found the relevant page on the manual disk but am unable to separate that one page (it's a pdf file containing 74 pages for the engine). I've sent you a mail asking for one and if you'd like to return an e-mail address to me I'll send the attachment to you.
