My 1991 Mitsubishi Delica with Automatic Transmission consumes about 4.5~5 km/Li of diesel. Is this the normal consumption of the 4D56 turbo-diesel engine? Do you have any suggestions on improving my fuel consumption?

If this is the 2.8 "new shape" does not seem out of order. Best I have done is 423km on 50L, worst 336km on 51L (23.65 / 18.58mpg). Does that help?

Delica is spelt with one 'i' ;)
The 4d56 engine means it is a L300 shape Deli unless I'm mistaken
I work out that 4.5-5.0miles per litre is approx 21½ mpg... It does seem a bit low but of course it does depend on how heavy your right foot is ;)

Hi,

You could try blanking the EGR valve which is reputed to give better fuel economy but I'm yet to discover that benefit. Response from the throttle is better and a lot less black smoke out the back end too!

more details here www.mitsubishidelica.com

Best of luck and the only other advice has already been given, lift off the right foot!
