Just joined the forum to get some info of a problem im having, Ive got a 1994 Mitsubishi Verada V6 Automatic with automatic transmission, The problem only started happening recently, this is that the car dosnt seem to get passed 1st gear, gets to about 55kmph, which is about 35-40mph for americans, than it just revs.

I have a spare part car which is a Mitsubishi 1994 Magna, ive swaped the transmission, ECU, speed dial unit(just did that as i had a broken light in hte verada one) and I have also swaped over all the fuses.

So the Verada has a magna gearbox and stuff, but still isnt changing gears :crying: , I could go to a professional and get a check, but ive replaced the gearbox, so that the biggest thing, i just dont want to pay a fortune and find out its just some relay up behind the dash board :blush-anim-cl: .

Does anyone got any ideas???

yep download the manual

http://www.lisho.net/?page_id=3

the manual has the automatic diagnostic chart and full rebuild info spec etc

click on the links in my signature and do searches

auto with no gears means
torque converter
or oil pressure problem might be a simple clogged filter

make sure it is mitsubishi oil you are using

cycle the gears/engine hot /put it in park/ and check the level

oil should be between the two lines

do a stall test on the box

dont think it is electrical as both boxes have failed after replacing everything

will think on it

will have a chat to some of the forum members

http://www.mitsubishiclubaustralia.com/forums/
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/

pm rod-d

was thinking it may be the kick down solenoid

but still going the pressure side or valve box operation

should be an easy fix if you have reverse and first

are you sure it isnt in limp mode and actually taking off in third ?

undo the battery terminals this resets the auto computer then refit the terminals

Goodday to you all.
My problem is similar to the Verada auto trans one in that today after stopping the vehicle for an hour and then restarting the auto won't leave third gear. It does reverse gear but doesn't feel or sound healthy mechanically as it results in quite a jolt.
I have had this happen before and it cost me a bucket load to fix.
1. Second hand or possibly a recon auto (can't recall now)
2. New computer unit.
The car is a V6 TF S/W 1997 with 4sp auto.
The "N" light flashes whilst the car is in drive and as said it won't get out of third gear. Previously I had the issue of the internal heater core leaking and corroding the computer unit which I was then told caused the auto to select or engage more than one gear at once? Could this be true? This unit was replaced and the auto too about three and a half years ago. Anyway too late now as it has happened again.
There is no problem with the heater core leaking again as far as I can see and also the new computer unit was never installed in its original position as I was told I would then have to replace the heater core which was a pig of a job. It therefore sits in the footwell of the passenger side and has been quite happily for the last three years. There is another unit there too that is wired into the same harness as the computer and is a four pin terminal unit with "E8T101 7530" marked on it.
I have no idea what this does?
Anyway have disconnected the battery and the above unit plus computer unit and checked the trans oil which seems ok.
Any input would be much appreciated as to where I can maybe locate the TCU if it has one or is this part ot the computer unit?
It would appear the car is in "limp mode"?
Many thanks for reading my first thread.
Regards.

yes the computer has put your box into limp mode
buy one from a wrecker

replace the TCU it might be under the gear shift console
a few screws to undo

or check in the manual yours is a 3rd gen

Good morning to you all.
Thanks for your reply chain rattle. You've obviously had a great deal of experience with this problem. I will attempt this myself to save funds I hope. Just curious if there is a pic or description of the TCU so that I know what to look for and exchange. As I mentioned before I have also disconnected a four pin device that measures approx: 3cm x 2cm x 1.5cm. Unsure what this is ?
Thanks for your input chain rattle.
Regards.
