Hi everyone,

As per title,

I have a 1990 L300. My (colum change) shifter is "sloppy" (i.e: goes into gear not a worry, but theres alot of play in the gear lever). Just wondering if anyone here, could tell me how to remedy this problem. Its the first Mitsi I've ever owned, and I know nothing at all about it

So if someone could either post up some pics of how to fix this, or point me in the right direction, that'll be great

regards

Jared

Remove the plastic cover which surrounds the shifter mechanism (4 philips head screws). Then try shifting and see if the play in the travel is at this junction. Chances is that this is were the problem is as there is plastic bushes in here which wear out.

Then get yourself offf to the wreckers and get another shifter mechanism.

Cool thanks for the reply dude :) could I not just go and source a new set of these "little bushes" you're talking about? (from a local mitsi dealer), or is it easier replacing the whole shifter?

thanks in advance

Hi everyone,

well, today I had taken off the plastic cover that goes around the shifter/steering column. I noticed theres a fair bit of movement when Im in gear (I can "wiggle" it vertically), there's about 5 - 10mm worth of play there. (at the top).

My question is: Is this where the little plastic bush is supposed to be? (theres currently nothing there). Because I thought it would be, but then I went into 1st gear, and my shifter goes right to the top of the bit its connected to (where 1st and 2nd gear is). I couldn't see anything else.

It does move diagonally (i.e: towards the driver, and towards the dash), but there is no movement at all, that I can see.

So basically, on the inside of the van, there is visable movement when I "wiggle" my shifter vertically, but there is no movement, when I "wiggle" it diagonally :puzzled: .

Can anyone else help?

thanks again

It probably is your cross shaft bush thats disintegrated to nothing.Part number MT202944 one required. It's located inside the bracket that clusters and holds the linkages together near the G/box.Ask the parts man to show you the diagram if you have trouble finding where it goes.I used to sell a ton of them. Also but not as frequently the bushings or grommets if you like on the ends of everymovable joint on the linkages can also perish. I would also check your Idler arm bushes if you still have a steering box on your model versus rack and pinion on the newer ones. These very commonly also perish.2 required MB197211??? Almost like a service item.Other than these small problems they are a great van.
