recent in an MSN car reliability report tool, i found that the 02 galants were superior in reliability in all things except what they called a "water stop motor" which apparently is part of the AC system. now, i know an awful lot about my galant and its parts but what does a water stop motor do and where is it?

you can take a peek at the article

http://autos.msn.com/home/reliability_ratings.aspx

then at that page put in 2002 mits galant and you can read what i saw.

thanks guys

First I've heard it called that, but it's usually called the heater valve motor. It's a gearbox motor that opens and closed a valve that controls the hot water flowing through the heater block.

Mine did malfunction and it really sucks having to drive in the winter without heat! Impossible if there is snowfall.

But I did manage to fix it myself, including fixing the actual motor... well... at least it works for now, but for how long I don't know.

Look at my blog if you want to know how I fixed it:
