ok guys this is my chics ride and man am i lost on these cars. i drive a truck..

she was driving along fine then went under the over pass took a left turn to get on the on ramp and the car was dying as she pumped the gas

after it sits for awhile it will stutter like its wanting to start then just cranks over and over.

i check basics..
unplug fuel line cranked over and gas was flowing. have not checked the pressure.
i also listened for the fuel pump but it seems that i only hear a noise when i put it gear and then to reverse then to drive
checked the plugs for spark.. they have spark
car has about 120k miles and wires and plugs are about 3k miles new.

i cant handle these sidways motors. my hands are too big.

thanks for your responses..

did service engine light come on? if yes, you want to get a code-reader to figure out what sensors were tripped, and will help isololate the issue

no service engine light is on.. as the car wont start i didnt know if it needs to be started for the light to come on.

went to autozone and got a reader.. no codes.

also took valve cover off and the timing belt is still on..

anyone ever tried a ignition failure sensor and found that was the problem.. or the crank shaft sensor..

thanks!

I have a 2000 eclipse 2.4 with the exact same problem. I can't find any help. Like you when I put it through the gears I hear a noise that sounds like the fuel pump.

What was wrong with the ECU? And where did you take it to be looked at/or what did you do to check it?

here was the problem after taking the whole motor down.. i got inside the timing belt and it seems there was also a camshaft belt and that slipped off causing it to loose timing also.. i changed the belt put the timing back and it runs fine now!!

Wow, congrats man... haha you didn't even need our help. Did this happen because the timing belt wasn't changed when it was supposed to? Or have you kept up on all of that?
