Hi folks,

Some history - The car(mit galant 2.4L SOHC) has 108k miles on it, and has ran very well for a long time. Problem began when my son started it up and it idled rough and had limited power. He drove it home about 6 miles or so. When I looked at it in the morning, it had very low oil reading. below the low limit by about .5 " . The engine would start but ran rough. Instructed my son that he needed to get some oil and add enough until it is at the full mark on the DS. He, of course wasn't listening, and added what the manual said, 4 qt's. The he started it up..... Obviously didn't help, so he turned i back off until I got home. Needless to say, I had oil on the left to plugs(when looking at motor from front of car.) Removed all plugs and turned over the engine to get the excess oil out of the cylinder. Got new spark plugs and tried it. no good, engine still idled rough. Have 188psi in each cylinders, so rings are good... whew. Suspect ECU? Has limited power, shifts erratic, unplugging the MAF allows the engine to idle better. Blanked off the EGR with a full metal gasket(home made) and that didn't change anything.

Any ideas??

FIXED the rough idling.... It seems that the IAC and the EGR valves and the intake manifold was extreme congested with carbon buildup. Once it all was cleaned up, it idles real nice now...

However - I also needed to replaced the belts( not timing, it was done at 75K) and also had to replace the harmonic balancer. Did all that and also performed a transmission fluid filter and fluid change. The fluid was definitely ready to be changed but had no real debris in it. Now this car was shifting weird during the initial problem so now that the rough engine issue is gone, it still has issues shifting smooth! It is also displaying weak power in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears?

Any ideas from anyone pls....
