Hey all,

My fan belt has been getting progressively louder and I've been meaning to tighten it up. Its one of those things you only remember while you're driving.

So, finally I'm going to sort it out, however I've never actually tightened a fan belt before, so some help would be great..?

Cheers,

Caleb

Just had a look in there, and the fan belt doesnt appear to be too loose, however the power steering belt has quite a bit of 'push' in it.

It usually squeals between 2-3000rpm, but can vary a little lower sometimes if that helps.

Remove drivers seat. Remove power steering cover and engine cover plate and swing away as far as handbrake cable will allow. Loosen only the bolt behind at bottom rear of alternator. Loosen bolt on slide top front of alternator. Use a lever to move alternator towards you (away from motor) and tighten slide bolt. Re-tighten bottom rear bolt. Do not over stretch the belts. Alternator and air conditioning (if fitted) belts when pressed in the middle should deflect between 7-10mm, and the power steering belt 6-9mm. Job done, replace covers and seat. This is shown on p27 of Gregorys Manual should you need it. Regards Mike.
