Hi there,
Im new here, so hello to you all :00000732: im trying to help out my friend, she has a 2000 carisma 1.8 GDi.

She bought it a few weeks ago and after the car had warmup up the revs would lower dramamticly on idle and try and stall the car. A garage said an air intake pipe had come off and they had put it back on, after that it worked fine for about a week.
I saw her on monday and the car has the problem back, it is also using much more petrol then it should, its only doing around 25-30 MPG from wot i can work out!! :o and today she was complaining that if she acelerates hard the car will accelerate for a second then just give up like its pulling a heavy weight behind it.
Can anyone please shed some light on the problem? Thanks!

sounds like the throttle body unit is on its way out.It should shown up an engine code most times.make sure the throttle plate moves freely as the common fault throttle body units have a magneto set-up on them.this is a repair that needs to be diagnosed carefully as the new throttlebody units can cost up to approx £800.pm if you need a bit more info

when I said engine code I was refering to an engine fault code which will only be found via a code reader or scanner.most garages should have the equipment to do this.

friend took it to the garage and told me the mechanic said that there was "something" missing from the "air stuff" and then some "other bits" that "had something" so looks like i wont find out what the problem is. (dont you just hate blonde women relaying information to you!)
