Hi, I am new to this site. I have a mitsubishi Carisma 1.6 (2000). The problem I have is that I cannot select reverse gear. 1st Gear is now where reverse gear used to be and 2nd gear is straight down from that.

It feels as though the settings in the gear box have just moved over to the left. Someone I know with mechanical knowledge has had a look at the linkage for me and cannot see anything wrong.

Has anyone ever had this problem before - or know what I should be looking at.

Glenn

only problem I have ever seen with gear selection is the nylon bushings wearing out.they are held in with a 10mm head nut and bolt.very cheap to replace but do not over tighten them as it can make shifting hard.they are located where the long selector shaft is attached to the transmission.may not be your fault but worth looking at

Sounds like that exact problem to me, £6 for a full set of nylon bushes from a mitsi dealer, 15mins to fit once you get under your car.
