Mitsubishi Motors transfers Outlander production for Europe

Tokyo 18 September 2007  — In order to keep up with the strong demand for Outlander in Europe and new Lancer* worldwide, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has decided to transfer production of the Outlander (for European markets) to its regional production hub (Netherlands Car B.V. [NedCar], Born, the Netherlands) during 2008.

The company currently produces Outlander at its Nagoya Plant in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture and the new SUVs for PSA Peugeot Citroën at its Mizushima Plant in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. As production of the Europe-market Outlander shifts from Nagoya to NedCar, production of the new SUVs supplied to PSA Peugeot Citroën will be transferred from Mitsubishi Motors' Mizushima Plant to its Nagoya Plant.

The decision to make the above transfers has been taken in order to ease the strain on production capacity at the Mizushima Plant, thus avoiding any missed sales opportunities in view of the strong sales of Outlander in Europe and of the Lancer in markets worldwide.

Mitsubishi Motors' European production hub NedCar currently manufactures the Colt compact car, the company's best selling model in Europe. The company plans to produce Outlander at its NedCar plant until the model reaches the end of its life cycle.

This doesnt really affect current owners, but its possible the level of build quality might suffer with the initial move of production to NedCar,so it may be a case of the Japan built models being more desirable. The previosu models built at nedcar such as carisma and spacestar were often slated by the oress as not having the same quality as the Japan built Models but lets hope the euro built outlanders are just as good.

hi Gevo

I was interested to read your post as I also found this information on the UK car comparison / Review site "Honest John" .

It made my mind up to purchase as Japanese manufactured Outlander built at the Nagoya Plant as I wanted that reassuring Japanese build quality after spending so much money ...

I'm pleased to say I took delivery of a beutiful black Diamond model with the 2.2 HDi engine 1 week and six days ago  ....... it's a truly amazing car ......

The point I'm making I supose is that it affected my descision as to when to buy ... I think Mitsubishi have missed a trick and should of moved the Citroen C Crosser and Pug 4007 to Holland ... the engines will not have to travel to Japan .........and keep the Oulander in house in Japan ......
