Right, i bought this car quite cheaply recently its registered 1988 and done 130K all i want it for is to get me around while i wait for my insurance payout.

anyway the problem............it drives fine until i get to a hill then after a bit it starts to bunny hop until it dies i leave it for a min then it restarts and is ok until the next hill........at 1st i thought it had run out of petrol but there's about half a tank - no warning lights, no smoke/steam not overheating

If anyone has any ideas i'd be very grateful

Start by having a look at the state of the air filter and associated pipework

Sound like you might have an air lock in your fuel system, or some other fuel starvation problem. While the car is going up the hill it needs more fuel and it sounds like it's not getting it. Air locks can often occur in the fuel filter. You could try there or else your carburettor might need a service (assuming you have one!)
But before you take the carb apart make sure your ignition timing is correct, you have the correct spark plugs and your air filter is ok etc....
Failing that it may also be the fuel pump is gone. Does the same thing happen if you put the boot down in fifth while going about 40mph?

Thanks guys for your help, it turns out it was a combination of thinks, most of which i've sorted ie. fuel filter, spark plugs however the choke is not working properly and i need to get parts for or a new carbuerator, however that seems to be the problem - any ideas of suppliers that might carry these parts as nowhere seems to stock now?

Good to hear you've located your problem. Carb parts can be difficult to find these days. It might be easier to find them in a breakers yard. Have you tried going straight to a mitsubishi dealer parts dept?
Otherwise maybe taking the auto choke out and replacing it with a manual cable might be an option (like in the good old days). Might take a bit of engineering!
Hope i've been of some use.
M
