Hi Guys:

In need of some ideas. I bought a 1994 Tecnica with 75,000 miles and high pithing ticking noise which I thought was the need for valve adjustment. The valve adjustment was performed to .004 intake and .008 exaust with a cold motor, the noise got a little lower but is still tiking more than normal. What ya all think it might be?

PLEASE ADVISE, THANK YOU.

what engine is in that car?

You sound like you need new Hydraulic Valve lifters.

they are a real pain and can be very embarassing on the road. If you changed adjusted your valves and they still TICK>

I 95% sure you need new lifters................

Engine Flush and then Change the oil to a mor thicker one. Mine is a 4G93 adn i hated that tic tic tic so took the lifters out and cleaned them, did the job.
but if you dont have the time a thicker oil will do for now.
Do you have any pics of your engine? I post some of the cleaning process.

I also have a 4g93 SOHC. My ride is a 2000 Mirage DE and everyday ithe sounds get louder.
I wannt to clean the lifters and if the prblem continuues, change them.

I think that the 4G93 uses hydraulic lifters........can anyone confirm that?

bremboy71: please if you can send me some pics of the cleanning process I 'll really appreciate.

I've already use engine flush and change oil but it continues.

I would like to try the cleaning process,

in order to clean the lifters, use a needle which is strong enough to push down the ball bearing in the hydraulic valve lifter. Do clean the lifters in diesel fuel. Check if there is jam or leak (oil leak) from the lifters. If there is, try to replace it... if possible. After cleaning process, use new engine oil grade 20W/50 or 15W/40. Make sure it's not semi or fully synthetic engine oil. Recommended only mineral engine oil.

By the way .. 4G93 DOHC use hydraulic valve lifter, while 4G93 SOHC use jam nut on rocker arm as valve lifter...
