I have a 1991 L300 2lt manual van, which has lately decided to stall without warning. Sometimes I will feel it start to flounder, & if I ease of the throttle just a fraction, it starts to pull again. Other times it just stops & seems like it has a gut full of fuel. It has New coil, plugs, plug leads, air & fuel filter, vacuum hoses, Complete new carbi kit. The timing is spot on, idles smooth as, but you go to drive off & it starts to die & eventually snuffs it. Trying to restart results in almost immediate firing, but bucket loads of black smoke out the exhaust, thus the thought of flooding, but if I hold the throttle wide open( as is recommended for starting a flooded engine), it coughs & splutters for a few seconds before stalling again. Often light throttle will get it going again. It has to be a fuel problem, but I'm stuffed if I know where. If you have overcome a similar problem, I would love to hear from you, thanks.

Have you checked the fuel pump too?
