You don't because that is the single most dangerous thing you can do while running a power cable in a sound system.

You take the fender panel completely off and run it through there, then you find a little hose/gromet that connects wires from your fender, to your door, to the interior of the car. Poke a hole in that hose/gromet and run your power wire through there. It is the best way to do it.

Oh, and if you have an automatic and the car comes in a manual, you can always run it through the manual tranny gromet.

In the 2008 Lancer GTS there is a Gromet (round rubber incert) in the firewall that you can push through and you can run right into the car through the firewall to directly behind the glovebox. Open the hood and look to the far left (passenger side). Use a flashlight and you will clearly see down in the corner a 2 cm black round gromet. Run your power where the green line is to the area by the circle where below the circle you will find the hole through the firewall. There is some fabric you will have to cut through on the interior side. comes right through into the glovebox. There is nothing in the way where it enters the glovebox.
