i say he should not only fix it, but make it look better. if he uses fabric the cracks will still exist and can cause the fabric to look lumpy. duct tape is just some temporary fix. if he only want the stock look back then there is always http://www.car-part.com or http://www.uneedapart.com he can buy a stock dash that isn't already cracked and just replace it.

Also, check the For Sale section on www.club3g.com

Several pop up there frequently from cars being parted out.

Just had the dash replaced. I didn't do it, but my friend who did, said that there are hidden screws near the heater core that you need an angled screwdriver to get at. Also, you have to reset the airbags so that the passenger side doesn't go off. The dealership says to disconnect the battery terminals and hold them together for 2-3 minutes. My new dash looks great. Don't use anything except for soapy water on the dash, or it will crack like mine did...in less than a year!

I have a 01 GT Spyder. Mines is cracked too. This sounds like a factory defect. We should get a list started to see how many people have this problem. Maybe we can get Mitsubishi to replace if this is really widespread.

For the millionth time - it's not covered. It's a plastic part on a 8yr old car.
