I have a 1999 mitsubishi carisma 1.6 Glx, and i was wondering what are throttle bodys. I see this word in almost all the threads, and people talk about cleaning them.

I wanted to know what these throttle bodies are and where are they located and how do I clean them?

many thanks to all

follow the rubber intake piping from your air cleaner to the engine.it will lead directly to the throttle body unit which is held on by 4 12mm bolts.there may be coolant lines running the underside of it but you can clamp off the pipes to remove in order to save not draining your cooling system.cleaning the throttle body should take no more than 1/2 hr in total.the fault commonly mentioned generally refers to the gdi engine.pm if you need any more info or read some of the other threads ref this issue
