I work the late shift at work now, and commonly get off between 11 and 12:30 at night. At night, the road i take to get home is the place for little street races. I have been fortunate enough to partake in a few of these races. However, it must be said, occasionally the results of said competitions surprise me.
For example, my biggest surprise at a stoplight was an old Jetta VR6. we lined up, and the instant the light turned green he was GONE. I had no idea those things were that fast in real life, because the stats arent that impressive. At least it looked the part; Im lucky I havnt raced any sleepers yet; as im sure those provide quite the shock as well.
So, i inquire, weather it was far better or far worse than what you were expecting, what has surprised you guys the most at a light?

I haven't been in a street race in a long time, but there is one that I will always remember. Back in the early 90's I was driving my '65 Mustang coupe, and pulled up to a red light. The Mustang ran high 12's-low 13's fairly consistantly at the track, and a bright yellow 1957 Ford PU truck pulled up next to me. I could hear that he had a lumpy big block under the hood, and he had some fairly wide tires in the back, but nothing else that was easily noticable while sitting next to it. He reved the engine once and looked over at me, so I figured "why not, he'll probably just go up in smoke once he hits the gas like every other truck around" lol. Big mistake on my part, when the light turned green, he yanked the front tires about 2' of the ground and I finaly could see more of what he had done to the truck lol. He was running a full on drag 4 link suspension and only had the fenders on the bed (those trucks had the wood floors in the bed normally). I would guess he could have run low 11's or high 10's with his set up as long as he didn't run out of gear too soon.
