I've read a lot of posts regarding the infinity sound system and how it's a bit of a pain to mess with. I actually like the head unit and want to keep it due to the stock look, 6 disk in dash changer and audio controls on the steering wheel.

I don't do any type of installs myself and purchase equipment and install from best buy.

I want to swap out the speakers and add an XM receiver with an FM modulator.

I recently purchased the XM receiver and modulator and want them to hard wire this into the head unit.

I also purchased new components for up front: Infinity 6 1/2 2-way with plus one cones. 2 ohm, max output 270 watts with RMS of 90 watts. The installers said they couldn't use the crossovers that come with these because the factory amp has a built in crossover for the separates. Will that be problematic?

Also, Infinity 6 x 9 3 way with plus one cones for the back. 2 ohm, max output of 300 watts with RMS of 100 watts.

I know the factory amp won't put out that kind of wattage, but as is, it seems the factory amp is pretty loud. Is there a way to increase the gain on the factory amp? The stock speakers don't seem to have the clarity I'm looking for.

Do you think that these new speakers will make an appreciable difference while being run with the current head unit/amp while compared to the stock system?

Also, if I choose to later install another amp to run a pair of 10's in the trunk, will I need a new head unit to do so, or is there some sort of kit that I could purchase to make that happen?

If not, what do you recommend?

I listen to mostly rock and hip hop.

Thank you in advance.

aftermeket speakers always help. but im not sure if the stock infinity amp will be able to do 2ohms per channel(most amps can but some cheaper amps aren't safe to run with that load). im not familiar with that amp so i could be wrong.
as for keeping your stock head unit there are easy ways to do it. depending on how many stock speaker outputs your head unit has will tell you what kind of line out converter you will need. if you are looking for the best possible sound quality the JL audio makes by far the best line out converters i have evert heard(but they aren't cheap). they are called jl audio cleansweeps. a line out converter will change you speaker outputs into rca's to input into an amp for subs.

I just said screw it.

I bought a new Alpine Head unit and am running it to to an Alpine F450 4-channel amp. The amp powers all of my speakers and enables me to use the crossovers for my separates.

Now I'm gonna get a 12" sub in an enclosed box and probably run about 300w to with a Rockford Punch amp.

The convertible is too small for anything other than 1 sub, so I'm going with a 12". I'd rather have 2 10's, but I still want some trunk space. Oh well.

Thanks for the reply. But I decided to just make it easy as opposed to dealing with the OEM "premier" system.

I'm really anti rockford punch. I would suggest that you look into the rockford power series. It is pricier, but definately a better amp.
