My Galant has about 120,000 miles on it. Has been a great car until a about a month ago. When I have my car in park or at a stop it idles very rough. It pans out at high revs but it still feels diffrent. Two Spark plugs have a little oil on them. Any ideas would help greatly. Also gas mileage sucks bad.

I had the same problem with my 8g last month. I took it in for service and had it diagnosed, but no problem was found. I changed a couple of part and by trial and error and with a little help from friens in Banawe, I finally identified the culprit, its the air intake controller. Its the box with a circuit board right before your air filter. I changed it using surplus parts, cost me 6k. As soon as I changed it things returned to normal as if nothing happened. You might consider thsi solution. Go to a surplus shop and have one installed, if it does'nt change anything you dont even have to pay.

Ok I changed out the mass air flow sensor. That is the unit right before the air filter. The idle is still very rough.

Any more ideas. Could it be a pully or my timing belt?

Its not a timing belt. those make a different, more expensive sound when they go. any codes? ses light on? try a hard reset of the ECU. pull the negative battery cable or the fuel pump fuse for about 30 min. hook it back up and drive it normally for a few miles. the ecm will relearn the fuel curves and appropriate idle speeds. its gonna run like crap for the firse mile or two but it should mellow out eventually if its sensor related. I've done it for some rough running conditions and it has worked.

^^ I agree with shane check the mounts, but you said oil on your plugs?.. Maybe when you had oil change some spilled? I'd clean them up and drive a bit and check them out afterwards. If you continue to have oil check your gaskets.

yeah but not immedialty. it can be pretty gradual.

unless he had plugs done at the exact same time as the oil change there would be no reason for oil to get in the plug tubes they would have to have the plug wires out. I dont see that anyone has asked the question is this is a 4cyl or a 6cyl?

Ok I am almost positive that it is my EGR valve.
I took the old one off and tried to clean it a littel. When I reinstalled it the car ran alot better, but is now back to the rough idle. I feel if I replace the valve with a new one it will fix my problem.

Thanks to all who replied to my first post.
