I'm getting a constant rumbling noise with a knocking over bumps coming from the front of my 1999 2.5 Galant.
I have only just got the car, it blew a gearbox the day i got it and have had to wait two months to get it back so I don't know how long the noise has been there.
Any ideas what it could be?

Found the cause of the knocking. The lower rear suspension arm ball joint on the front drivers side wheel is badly worn.
On the other front wheel there is a little movement, not sure exactly where it is, but I can only feel it when the wheel is dead central, turn it a little either way and it all feels nice & tight. Would be gratefull for any info.

Hi
Get the car in and get it looked at I had to replace a suspension arm a couple of months ago, bush had gone but found that the arm with ball joint and bush are one unit and had to be bought as such. About 30 pounds for the part and about that again to get it fitted plus the mechanic did a wheel alignment as the new part required this tweaked.

Take it to a mechanic and get the suspension components checked. During my last service, I was informed that my front ball joint or something will need to be replaced. I have had a feeling something was a bit amiss, as when I back the car up, there's this clonk I hear at times. I doubt it's anything too serious, just normal wear and tear.

also a very common problem with this generation galant is the sway bar links falling off or wearing down quickly, which cause a lot fo knocking over bumps and such. happened to me and my mother's car.

Looks like it was just the ball joint. Replaced the arm a while ago now & it now drives great, nice & quiet. The movement on the other side was just a wheel bearing starting to wear so fixed that as well. Now all is good.
