yesterday i turned the ignition to the on position i think...where it lets you run the navi without running the engine....and it made this funny ticking sound....anyone elses car do that? and when i start it, the engine sounds very loud until i tap the gas pedal and then the engine quiets down. have any of you experienced that as well? what is the cause for these occurances?

yea i noticed the clicking when turning the ignition on thats normal...and the engine idles at a higher rpm when cold so its louder until your car is to running temp or as your doing touch the gas and the engine will idle down..its a normal thing on any car, the higher rpm your engine idles at the faster it warms up...(thats why when you first start your car and its cold outside your heat blows cold air but as soon as you start driving the air heats up really fast)

As mentioned, the clicking is normal. I get that too, not sure exactly what that is, but some sort of battery/power engagement thingy probably.

There are a few different sequences of turning your ignition. There is the off position, then there is another one which powers up the stereo and I believe the windows. The next one would be the one where it starts clicking and that enables the fans or the heating/cooling system (and probably some other things as well, not sure). And the final one would be to start your engine - do correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure thats how it goes.

And the high idle when you start the engine happens to me as well. Usually the car will idle at 1.5k roughly. If you let it sit there for a little bit (less then a minute for me) the rpms will go down. I generally tap my accelerator to rev up the engine a bit, and that seems to cause the rpms to drop down as well. I'm pretty sure that's normal since I had that happen if my other vehicles as well.
