So i just got my 93 talon tsi awd this week, and its a saturday night. I just dropped off my friend from a party, and i wanna cruise a little. I hadn't been drinking or anything and i started hot rodding the car on some back roads, nothing too bad. Anyway, i decide its time to go home, turn around and cruise back. I get to a windey part of the road, down shift to third and take a turn at about 40 mph. It wasn't a sharp turn or anything, but i heard a loud pop and my back end slides out to the left. I counter steer and slam the clutch in. But the car doesn't correct itself (well **** thats bad...). The front wheels go off the road and the back end spins around into a ditch :'( There is smoke everywhere from the tires and engine but luckily no major damage. Im still not sure why my tire blew, but i do know that it could have been a disaster if it had blew when i was hot rodding it. So I just thought i'd share that story.

I got the car into the shop and looked it over. Hot rodding for me = high rpms, high speeds (nothing too fast), im not completely careless tho. I think the tire was a little dry rotted. I looked at the other tires and the back two are fine, but the other front one is cracking a little :/ But yeah, i am def lucky it happened when it did. I let my friend drive it, he took it on the freeway and while i was changing songs on the ipod he kicked it up to 100. I was not too happy with him. Had it blown then..... Yeah, i consider myself lucky to say the least.

you could post what to do in that kinda situation, but as you probably know, once your in that situation, very little time to think about a post on a forum. most would hit the brakes and over steer, and even with advise, thats still what will probably happen. either way, (kinda like sliding on ice) you want to punch it (braking takes away one traction you had left) and steer twords the center of the road and then stop as soon as safe to (once corrected and straight), not twords the other side cuz you'll just way overcorrect and end up sideways with no control(been there done that). and this applies to FWD, since thats what most people drive on this site.
so. 1. gas it 2. steer straight 3. once straight, stop
(these are just from personal experiences, if you have better advise, i'd love to hear it)

QUOTE(Lewiman06 @ Nov 12 2007, 02:38 PM) you could post what to do in that kinda situation, but as you probably know, once your in that situation, very little time to think about a post on a forum. Yeah very true, i suppose you only really learn from expiriences, undergoing a crash course of some description could do some good, but yeah i suppose basic human reaction is to stop the car as fast as you can and most would try and over correct. My dad always told me that if you've lost control, you should turn your wheel the way your spinning out, which will gain your traction again, then quickly correct, although yeah i'd probably try and take you're advice over that.
