Hello. My 2003 L200 is Overheating. Just had new head gasket fitted. Head skimmed and tested with no cracks. New timing belt fitted and balancing belt, New water pump and new cap fitted. Starts and drives no problem. No real overheat while driving short distance. On my way to work this morning after an hour of motorway driving the needle started to creep up but not into the red.

After the motor cooled I lifted the bonnet the expansion bottle was full. It took a litre and a half to fill the rad back up.

Took it back to the garage where I got the work done. It has still got too much water pressure. Its been taken away for a test to find if its got exaust gases in the water.

It would only loose a small amout of water before (coke bottle) now its worse.

Anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong?
Many thanks.

possible causes are faulty new parts ie thermostat not opening, waterpump impeller loose or wrong headgasket fitted, there could have been air trapped in the cooling system, if the coolant was contaminated with oil when the old gasket blew was it all cleaned out properly? as a blocked radiator will cause overheating. is the viscous coupling on the cooling fan ok?, best to let them check it all out and hope its down to them!

i have just found out that the egr heat exchanger is prone to failure when the head gasket blows causing coolant loss into the exhaust

a pressure test does not always show up cracks or assure you the cylinder head is ok.most pressure test only go up to 80*C which is insufficient to show all cracks in a cylinder head.I have changed quite a few that "tested" fine and could not be fixed until the head was replaced as it had cracks that were not apparent under a pressure test
