Just for practical experience on the braking system. I went off road and when I had to brake for another car approaching the brakes made a very strange noise. was like metal on metal and could not get it to a stop. It eventually did. It would go well for a few stops offroad and then it would re-occur. Then it also happened in town on a tar road(with holes)

So the guys stripped everything trying to located the problem but did not succeed. They advised me to take it to another guy to have a look at it. Also did not succeed.

Then a while later realised it is time to do a check on the suspension. The mechanic advised me to change the upper lower arm, tie rod ends, and some bushes. After that repairs the problem on the braking system disappeared.

Afterwards if you you think of it, it does make sense that the abs struggled to function probably because there was to much play on the suspension.

Hope it helps someone.

Thanks for your thread as this is not a problem I've heard about.

I would not have thought that your suspension components would have any affect on your ABS operation. From what I know ABS works off the wheel rotation and hydroulic brake pressure. So unless you were getting 'false' readings from your wheel sensor due to mechanical vibration it should not make a difference.

Maybe others more experienced than me could add some comments on this subject?

I totally concurr with that opinion. I've had the same problem off-roading, except in my case I had a major accident due to that issue and almost got killed! I am installing an ABS bypass button for off-roading, but still haven't studied how. Any ideas anyone?!
