My 1995 manual FTO wont start, I can clutch start it, but when i turn the key there is no clicking or cranking sound from the engine, the lights work fine, I got a jump start (well tried) and it still would not start even though the battery level showed 14 volts!

why wont my car start?

starter motor. had the same thing happen to me with the missus and 20 shopping bags. went down well with her as you can imagine. its at the back of the engine tucked right by the down pipe for rear bank of cylinders. give it a rough tap and try cranking it again. i got a newish one for 140 notes. dealer wanted 750 to import one!!

your neutral safety switch could be out of adjustment or bad. turn your key to the on position and test the wires on it by hooking in a voltage regulator and checking for voltage. if no voltage then replace, if it has voltage then pushing the button with your finger and try to turn your key. if it starts then you just need to adjust it up more with the little adjustments nuts it has. if it doesn't then your starter is bad, but i would check that first so you don't replace a perfectly good starter when all you have to do is adjust two nuts or replace a $20 push button switch.
