Hi all, just got my outlander its a metalic blue / gun metalish grey XLS 2003 with 29k miles- local mitsu dealer just did the fan controller recall and that took care of my fans being on after I turn the car off.

They did an inspection and it passed everything- the trans fluid was just flushed and replaced they said- recommended a fluid flush on breaks and steering (why... from my exp as long as the fluids topped of its good and looks clean) - and said it needed an air intake cleaning (I did it myself when I got home)

My first attempt to calculate MPG got me about 55 miles and I filled 3gal - thats alittle below what it should be (21 in city) I gave it the benifet that I was leaning how to drive it (this is my first non american car and drives alot different) - and now on that fill up I had the service done and cleaned the air intake (that burns gas b/c of the first hard-long crank start after the cleaning) so even my next fill up wont be accurate.

I have been searching here and around on mods- and other little things to do- the dealer checked my tire pressure and said it was fine, and the tires wear and tread are all very good- so I dont realy want to mess with the psi as it may cause odd wear if they are currently wearing evenly.

My air filter is new, I will get it a K&N when it needs replacement, but I cant see throwing out a brand brand new filter just to get a K&N unless many have seen a noticable differance with it.

Saw a ECM device on a few mod sites posted here and also on ebay - do they realy do anything? From my exp all the ebay ones do it trick it to think you are sucking in cold(er) air and to run more lean/rich will any of these moduals actualy increase performance - mostly looking for MPG here

Many thanks in advance :liebe011: so far enjoying my little outlander

Well my experience shows to avoid those miracle gas saving do-dads. But the K&N filter gave me about 40 Kms more per tank on average and of coarse avoiding heavy accelerations. I'm averaging 26 mpg or 11 Kms per 100 litres. I had my best tank last week coming back from Montreal (622Kms between fillups)

Thanks for the reply! I usualy discount those little plug in play merical boxes on ebay to improve MPG and HP etc- but I figured I would ask and see if anyone indeed has used one and seen an improvement.

Today I get to clean the inside thoroughly- that should be fun hehe - it was realy well kept but was a kid-trotter so there are some things I gatta clean on up that the outside detailing did not get.

I am going to put a bottle of cleaner through it- usualy I use slick 50 or other type- any sudgestions on brands fule cleaner etc?
