Well SL and base are pretty much the same thing more options, besides 97-99 base which are SOHC and a second slower 1/4. I would reccomend a 94 up SL, just because leather is always nice and bases and SL are pretty much the same price. Try to get under 75K miles, more chance the car will not give as many problems. Make sure everything is running right, have a friend who knows a thing or 2 about cars go 2 check the car out with your first.

VR4 are expensive to maintain, more prone to breaking down than a N/A, more expensive on gas/insurance.

+1

Unless you have mad coin, or a second get around car stay away from the VR4.

Oh and just make sure there is nothing weird sounding with the transmission. They are notorious for going. And just make sure to keep good tires on the thing.

Don't rush into one. And read guide to newbies, in the pinned section for some fun facts about the car.

Get a really big oldsmobile and get your first couple of crashes out of the way before buying something expensive. Then get an SL. It'll teach you how to handle a real car without killing you the way a TT or VR4 would.

Yeah dude I can drive fast cars all day long and I still don't have any respect for speed, its sad but true. At 17 with a VR4, even if you don't crash it, chances are it will be a headache one way (breaks) or another (tickets) or it will break or you will break it, or, you get what I am saying?

Just buy the SL, get a feel for the car have fun in it, learn all about the ride, the community and why modding a vr4 is more cost effective. Than after you save up enough money sell that SL in for your dream car the VR4.

Just my 2 cents....

I'd steer clear of the 3000GT altogether. You will buy it, then drive it, then want to make it faster. Save yourself the pain and buy a car that is light with some zip. Don't go to mental. Learn to drive the car and respect it. ;)

^^^ very very true, i'd dumped about 3500 into this car (about 25 to keep it going and the other 1000 in "go faster mods") and all i wish at this point is.....

dang, for about 8 grand cheaper i could have gotten a talon tsi and put the 3500 into that and have one fast bad car!

just a thought

guess whos back! :) , so after a good 2/3 of a year and trying to make my final choice, i still wanna stay faithful to my decsion and get the 3KGT. i actually checked out a 90 celica before saying anything else.. but that car's just too **** simple for me (and i come from a family full of toyotas.. and im sick of it!) lol. anyway i checked out this 3000GT on craigslist and it sounds pretty good. problem is what the guy says, take a look for yourself and please tell me what you would do in my postion. heres the link!

http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/car/731272746.html

meeting the guy sometime this week to check it out

-- side note --
he put stage 4 clutch on it, should i be concerned about that? i've only been crusing around in stick for about 5 months.

I was about to close this thread until I saw it was you, Welcome back!

It has no cat

It looks legit, ask about normal maintenance like the timing belt ect.

No smoke no leaks offer 4500 and don't go above 5000 unless he can document it has the timing belt timing belt tensioner timing belt pulleys water pump, done.

It does not need that clutch and it is not doing the car any good.

That car was beat on.

Hello,
I'm the owner of the 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 on which you've recently show interest. The car is in excellent shape and running condition. The price for the car is $4,000 with shipping and handling included in price.I am located in Houston, TX now and the car will be shipped from here. Shipping will be done via DAS and it will take no more then 2-3 days top (depending on your exact location).
The transaction will be made through MoneyBookers for our own protection. You will have 5 days to inspect and test drive it upon arrival with no obligation to buy. If you are interested in the purchase of the car, please get back to me and let know so we can make the deal.

...and just a question -- does anyone know what the hell moneybookers is?!
