I am picking up a '98 GSX on Monday. It seems to be rather heavily modified, and I have a couple of questions. 1 - It's got a Greddy Type S recirc valve that is ridiculously loud. It only has the vacuum line plugged in, not the second one lower on the body. I am not sure if turning the tension up or down will do anything. The car has a CAI, so I don't know if I'm stuck with the noise if keeping the CAI. 2- The exhaust, don't know the brand, seems to be high quality, but is also obnoxiously loud - I like a good exhaust, but not a constant droning on the highway and I don't like to advertise myself to every cop within a one mile radius. Any suggestions on something with a nice tone, yet on the more subdued side?
Also, it's got a manual boost control in the cabin. Right now it runs around 17 psi, and the AF gauge stays in the green when running at full throttle, which I assume is open loop with this engine management system. The car doesn't seem to run too rich. Not sure how accurate those gauges are, as I've never used one before. What kind of boost levels are most people running in these cars?
Thanks in advance for your help. I'll post more questions after I pick up the car next week.

QUOTE(accre @ Nov 22 2007, 05:18 PM) Thanks for the responses. I don't think that the turbo is stock. it was recently replaced, from what I know within a month. I haven't looked at one of these motors up close before, but it's a good bit larger than the Mitsu TE05 on my '92 saab, if that means a damned thing. I believe it's a Garrett. I think I saw the name on it somewhere. I really have to get in there when I pick it up and find out what's in there. The gauges are one of the better auto meter lines. So, a G1 bov is the way to go? No more noise? It really troubled me when I shifted on the highway and the person I was passing almost swerved into me when they heard the noise. That's kinda funny that someone almost hit you when they heard your blow off valve.. I got the 1G BOV...holds boost pretty good and it's not that loud. If you are thinking of getting rid of your type-s BOV let me know.

QUOTE(accre @ Nov 22 2007, 06:33 PM) that, and I'm 28 and don't care to hear that damned thing every time I shift. I'll be using this as a daily driver during this winter, so I'll have to live with that. After that it'll probably be a toy. yeah if you have a heavy foot of course your going to here the blow off valve every time. but on the other hand you don't have a heavy foot your not going to... heavy foot meaning that your building boosts pressure.
