Hi I have a couple of questions about the 08 Outlander...
1.) Is it the same basic vehicle as the 07 & did the 2008 just come out or has it been out for a few months?
2.) Has anyone hauled a trailer with it? It took forever but I finally found that its rated for 3,500 pounds ( I found it under the accessories page... go figure)
3.) Does it have a tilting & telescopic steering wheel? I couldn't find it on the website if you can could you link me to it?
4.) Do the packages I mention in the next paragraph include the Blue Tooth connection like they do on the Lancer?
5.) Do ya'll get the estimated mpg? 2x4 or 4x4, I guess if you get it with one you'll probably get it with the other. I am a "spirited driver" but sometimes I baby my vehicles just for fun to try and squeeze every mile out of a drop of gas I can. A 4x4 with 25 mpg sounds good I get about 14 in my 4x4 F150.
6.) What all does the on board computer tell you as far as information?

If I get one it will be the top of the line XLS w/ Luxury package, Sun & Sound, & Navi.
So after taxes, tags, title, figure 31k.
How much have you guys been paying for these things? I haven't bought a vehicle from Mitsu since my 1988 Mighty Max. In general are Mitsu dealers hard line or is there enough room I could get one for 28, 27 or maybe even 26k?
I drove the 08 Lancer but haven't driven one of these yet. Man I love the direction Mitsu is headin I have always trusted the company but now they are starting to build some really exciting vehicles... IMHO.

THX!!!

I have answers for you:

1.) Is it the same basic vehicle as the 07 & did the 2008 just come out or has it been out for a few months? I beleive it is the exact same as the 2007.

2.) Has anyone hauled a trailer with it? It took forever but I finally found that its rated for 3,500 pounds ( I found it under the accessories page... go figure) Yes, I have the trailer hitch installed and I have pulled an 8 foot by 5 foot utility trailer with my "07 XLS and it performs very well. I have a John Deere riding lawn mower that I have hauled with no problems.

3.) Does it have a tilting & telescopic steering wheel? I couldn't find it on the website if you can could you link me to it? Just tilting, not telescoping.

4.) Do the packages I mention in the next paragraph include the Blue Tooth connection like they do on the Lancer? All of the XLS models have the bluetooth built-in.

I get the recommended mpg listed for the XLS and I have the 4x4, I did have a Nissan Xterra with a Supercharger and I was only getting about 13 miles per gallon, so I now what you have been feeling in the way of gas prices. Plus the Xterra was only suppose to have Premium fuel.

6.) What all does the on board computer tell you as far as information? So for from my expereice, I have gotton the Caution Icy Roads warning, low tire pressure warning, as well as the low fuel warning. I really like the display between the speedo and the tach.

I have the '07 XLS without the sun & sound Pkg. It does have the 4wd though.

I bought mine used with just over 9,000 miles. I paid $20,900.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like you got a great deal!
Yeah I love pretty much everything about the Outlander & Lancer, but the on board computer w/ the red display in between the gages is sweet!

How does the caution icy roads light come on? Does that just come on if traction control activates or something?

How do you like the seats have you had any long trips in the vehicle yet? That seemed to be the only complaint I could find and that was just on one video review of it.

Are you happy with it any quirks or little things you don't like?

Thanks again for the info!

zbo2408,

Yeah, I feel like I got a pretty good deal on the Outlander. As far as the icy roads warning it comes on when ever I start the vehicle and the temp outside is below 37 degree. It has nothing to do with the traction control activating. Also, another little thing that's cool is that the color of the screen changes from red to yellow when a warning appears.

I really like the seats, I haven't taken any really long trips with it yet, but I don't think they'll bother me. I don't know about you, but I'm only about 145 pounds, 5'8 and pretty skinny.

I can't think of any quirks that drive me nuts quite yet, some people will say that the display for the radio is dim, but it doesn't seem to bother me much.

All in all I really love the Outlander. I was going to buy a Chevy Equinox, but changed my mind to the Outlander. I'm glad I did, I've read a ton of bad reviews on the Equinox.

You might want to go to youtube and search for Outlander reviews. I found a ton of good information on that site.

1. The 2008's just came out about a month ago, and are pretty much the same as the 07's with a few minor differences, like the ES model is gone (at least on the mitsu website, it is just the LS and XLS) and the LS comes standard with the F.A.S.T. Key system now and I believe that the F.A.S.T. key remote is smaller than the 07 one, and they all have different door handles. I think there might be another one or two things different, but I can't remember them.

2. Haven't hauled with it, but I know that some people have, and I have not heard of any problems.

3. Just tilting steering wheel, although I wish it had telescoping, that would be nice.

4. Again, bluetooth standard on any XLS.

5. I drive pretty spiritedly, usually do 70mph on highways, in 4wd auto mode, and I get about 23mpg average, better if I do more highway driving. I find that the city mileage is dissapointing, but I have averaged 25mpg doing 75mph on a long trip once, although a lot of it was down hill. I usually do about 35% city and 65% highway to get the 23mpg.

6. Again, just what jorris942 said, it tells you a lot, you can scroll through at any time, and get your miles till empty, gas mileage (it resets every 4 hours automatically, so it is basically useless, worst feature of the outlander), 2 Trip modes, engine temp, outside temp, miles/months till next oil change, and then any warning you may get comes up there. As for the navi unit, which I use a lot more, you can get info like how long you have been driving on your current trip, how many miles since your last fillup (resets automatically whenever the gas door is opened), you can set laps, get mileage and more, I find that info useful. You can also find info about the environment, barometer, altitude, temp and more.

In the USA, you won't pay MSRP unless your dealer is screwing you. I think the average is about 28k for the outie you want, which is the one I have, and a lot of other people. I leased mine, but the price of the vehicle was just over 28k, minus a 1k rebate for leasing, so basically the car was 27k for me. Most people in the US pay around that (28k), some more and some less depending on what the dealer has, and what they are willing to do, but I got my deal, and they even had to scour the area to trade with another dealer to get me exactly what I wanted. But I saw one on eBay over the summer, it was an XLS with S&S, navi and luxury and had 3500 miles on it and went for 19k, so it is possible, but I haven't seen any more like that.

As for the comfort, the trip I make in the outlander most often is a 2.5-3 hour drive (depending on traffic) and I am always comfortable, if I use the petal the entire way (no cruise control) then my leg is a little stiff (I am 6'4") but other than that, it is pretty damn comfortable. But that is the front seats, I have sat in the back of the outie, and the back seats are pretty hard, I wouldn't want to have to sit on them for a long period of time. I have a great time driving in the outlander, I have a plethora of music choices, FM, Sirius, CD, Musicserver or hookup an external device, so I am never bored!

There are a few things that annoy me a bit, like the gas mileage reseting every 4 hours, it is the stupidest thing in the world, but that is how they designed it. I wish that the daytime running lights would only come on when you put the car in drive, because sometimes I get somewhere early and sit in my car, but people see the lights on and think I am leaving, so I end up having to sit with the car off, it can be annoying. The seatbelt minder is annoying too, it goes off after 90 seconds, but comes back on if you come to a stop, so basically you can never not wear your seatbelt unless you are crusing the highway and don't stop, which usually doesn't bother me, as I usually do wear it, but sometimes when I am moving around a parking lot, or going somewhere close, it is annoying to have to put on my seatbelt to drive around at 10mph.

Every 4 hours huh that is odd, the computer engineers must not of been able to find enough memory on the 30 gig hard drive for it to last as long as the tank of gas huh haha
Glad to hear the seats are comfortable (who cares about back seat passengers)

Sounds great cannot wait to get one!

Thanks for all the replies

I just bought an 2008 outlander XLS s/s, lux, nav 4wd last week.
As far as I understand, there is a manual feature on the MMCS to turn off the 4 hour reset for mpg average. Just go to Info, select Trip and you will see something to allow you to choose Manual versus Auto.

Hope that helps.

Yes, you can do that, and for those who don't have the MMCS, you can use the info display to change it (you have to have the parking brake set and then you be able to select a settings menu when you scroll through the menu) but unfortunately it changes back to automatic when you shut the car off, at least on mine. I have reset it dozens of times, and it just changes back. I don't think that there is a way around it.

Smiley, I think you are right about it switches back to Auto mode after the car is shut off. However, the data are stored in the computer, so when you switch it back to Manual mode, your data since the last time you "reset" manually will reappear. (if I'm not wrong, you can reset the trip meters manually whenever you want in additional to the refueling reset).

Now think of it, I think we have the best of both worlds: The computer does the auto reset for you after 4 hours of inoperation to calculate each of our short trip averages; AND the computer maintains the data for us under the manual mode since your last manual reset to calculate our long trip averages. Not a bad set up.

I guess I'm just a "glass half full" type of person, so I'm easily amused by my car's ability to do certain thing in certain way, rather than being disappointed by the car's inability to do certain thing my specific way.

PS: I got my outlander only two weeks ago and not too familiar with all the features yet, so I may be wrong on my facts. I apologize if I misunderstand how the MMCS works.

Yes, you are right, It does store the information for the manual mode and I see your point about having both, it is just kinda annoying to constantly switch back and forth to see, I wish it would stick to what you set it at, and not go back every time you turn off the car.

But, the other thing is that in the same menu (info>trip) you can see how many miles since you last filled up, and how long you have been driving, laps, instant MPG and more, which are awesome features that I use all of the time (any time I take an hour or long trip, which is often). So, it is a trade off, it may reset things every time, but there are these other features that kinda make up for it.

FYI- I have had my outie since Aug. 31, 2007 and I just figured out how to input addresses into the navi address book yesterday. There are so many features, that it takes a while to figure them all out, but I guess that is because I haven't really played with the address book much. Overall this car is really tech-heavy which I love, I just wish a few little things were different, but anywho, no car is perfect, and I have learned to live with the outie's little oddities so far...
