I'm just wondering if anyone else has this same problem and what the possible resolve is....

The taillight bulbs keep blowing out prematurly. When they are blown the bulb that was once clear is now blackened, almost appearing like they get too hot. The filaments inside still appear to be intact however. Replacing the dead bulb (or bulbs) corrects the problem every time, but it's not long before they get blackened and blow out again.

This problem only pertains to the filaments of the brake lights, the regular running lights have never burnt out to date and keep on operating fine, even though the same bulb is used for both features. This means the same filament (brake) is going bad all the time while the other filament (running light) runs a normal course of life.

Since the problem is persisting on both left and right sides of the car I can rule out it being a bad socket, does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Cheers,
Dan

Get a multimeter and check what voltage you get when you hit the brakes. Could be a possible loose connection. also check the fuses.

my corolla did that for years, maybe went through 2-3 sets of brake bulbs per year, solved when alternator replaced. perhaps putting out too much volts, note car had a voltage regulator too
