Hello new to the forum but own my 03 outlander for almost 5 years now.
Great car never have a problem with anything until now.

Recently had my front brake pads and rotors change and everything seem fine until about a week later the brake starts to make a very light grinding nose with a bit of squeal everytime brake is lightly applyed whening coming to a slow complete stop.

The pads/rotor are new so those should'nt be a problem. The cars don't pull to any side when applying on the brakes, and the brake peddle seems fine when steping on it. There is however a very good amount of black dust on my front wheels, but more of it to the right side. Can this be from incompatible ceramic brake pads or what?

Anyways had the brake recheck and everything seems fine but I am still hearing the grinding nose.

Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
L.J

What mileage was done since rotors and pads change? My experience tells that you have to make about 500 km / 300 miles to get pads and rotors fully contacted. You know, the surface of pads and rotors isnt perfect flat and smooth, so the harder rotor made of steel must scratch many micro-grooves to the softer pads to bring close contact on 100% of the pad surface. Usually, brakes dont work 100% when new pads are to "fit" and you have to use brakes some time to get them work at 100%. And its simmilar when changing both rotors and pads.

And you said there is a black dust on wheels. I never used ceramic pads, but I think/remember ceramic pads are made of white/light colour ceramic material. So you couldn't get black dust produced. But i am not sure, as I said.

The squeeling is usally caused by bad installation. If there is no anti-vibration backing on brake pad to cushion pad to piston contact sqeeling will occur. Good brake mechanics apply a compound on the back of pads when this padding is not present. As for scrapping and excessive brake dust it seems that you do have a rotor to pad incompatibility. I installed pads and rotors on mine last year and I have no sqeeling and minimal brake dust. I do get a slight sound of scraping when my windows are down but I also had that sound with original pads and a lot more brake dust.
