hi all. ive just checked the whole forum and no joy so ill run my question up the flagpole and hopefully someone'll salute! whenever i turn the steering wheel in my (early)86' express 4x4 theres a whiny kind of noise,quite loud. the power steering seems ok so im hoping its not on its way out! is the power steering fluid dipstick the one next to(passenger side) the radiator?anyway its nothing mojor but i would like to sort it so any help is mucho appreciated! :)

Have you tried changing the oil?Pull out the dip stick and smell the oil. It will probaly have a burnt smell.

thanks for the help. smelt the oil and couldnt detect any burnt smell unfortunately. looking at the engine directly with the engine running the small power steering thingo(technical term)with the belt makes a mild buzzing niose when the wheel is turned.also the ps fluid resevoir and hoses below are covered with fluid although the level(ps fluid) seems fine(on full). anyhow thanks fr looking and any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Have you changed any hoses lately? Have you filled the oil? Did you bleed it prior to starting? The main pressure hose has a restrictor in it. If you changed the hose this might be missing.
