A 4x4 diesel L300 would be my dream, but, apparently, only the petrol 2-wheel-drive L300's were sent to the United States.

I've got an '87 model, and live in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon here in the states, and would sure like to make her 4wd. I was thinking the necessary parts would be hard to get, but I recently read that the 4x4's used the same chassis as the late '80's Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero, which I could easily find in a junkyard...
Wondering if anybody knows if this is true, and what would be entailed in converting my L300 to 4wd? (I don't HAVE any 4wd L300's to reference...so I don't know if the entire chassis would need to be swapped, or just the transmission and some drivetrain components?

Would REALLY appreciate some info/references/links/photos/advice, anything!

Also, what are the chances I could swap in the diesel motor when my gasser dies?

Hi Ya!
Got your e-mail hence I'm here!

Nice idea's but quite impossible to do (Mind you, nothings impossible!)

1) L300 2wd chassie is NOTHING like a 4wd one Engine is mounted higher IN the 4wd 0ne hence seats are higher...Have to change floor!

2) pagero chassies are NOTHING like an L300 one

2wd vans and 4wd vans share exterior body panels and engines and other small parts eg. Radiators only

pageros share diffs F & R some trans components Engines (Depending on the bell housing)

When its all said and done I,d say Give the idea away!

I Have no idea of the availability of second hand chassies and bodies where you are
Regards Ken
