Hello. I have a 2006 Eclipse GS and when I either go from reverse to drive or when I start the car and go directly into drive, I hear a loud click that sounds like it's coming from under the hood. It makes the noise about ten to fifteen feet after I step on the gas. It's done this ever since I bought the car. I bought it new in Feb 2006. The first time I got my oil changed, I asked the guy at the dealership what the clicking was and he said it was normal, it was the transmission engaging. About a month ago, I had the car in another dealership's service dept and I asked them if the noise was normal and they tried to reproduce the sound and said it was too loud in the dept for them to hear anything and I could bring it back if I wanted (I had it there for a different problem). I'm just wondering if everyone else with this car gets the same noise. I've never had a car make that click and I've never heard it come from anyone else's car. It's loud enough that people walking around will look. It sounds like I've ran over a styrofoam cup. Any ideas?

I just bought a 2007 Eclipse GT. I asked about a noise I heard after putting the car in gear when I test drove it. The salesman told me it was the traction control engaging. I thought it was coming from the front somewhere but at first thought it must be the door locking automatically. I heard it in all three years models I drove (2006-2008). It can sound like you ran over something; kind of a heavy clunk sound to me. :unsure:

Salesmen crack me up with their "answers" to questions...it's actually the ABS system...

The traction control is electronic.
