Greetings all - first time user. Hope someone needs some Christmas Karma and can offer some guidance. I am an owner of a '01 Montero Sport - Just love it - a real workhorse.

Just turning to winter (Western PA) here and 1st time into 4WD (since being stuck in the woods this summer) and a problem arose.

When I engage into 4WD (either stopped or moving) by shifting the controller; the ANTI-LOCK break error light pops on. Once this happens - my antilock brakes are disengaged! Now when I come to ice/snow covered roads - I have to chose b/w Antilock & 4WD.

Now as a test, I turned off the vehicle - it resets the Antilock error and they work again - this happens both when I turn the vehicle off while in 2WD or 4WD. Thus, if I need to engage the 4WD, the way to bypass the problem is to shift into 4WD - once it engages; turn off the vehicle so the computer can reset; then start and take off - now I have 4WD and Antilock.

Question - any suggestions based upon the symptoms - computer, wiring or the antilock sensors? Before I freeze my butt off trying to fix, I thought I would seek some input.

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!!

pish, my opinion is screw antilock. If you're going to be braking hard enough to the point where you loose traction you shouldn't be trying to turn anyhow. I dislike abs because it GREATELY reduces your stopping distance (i've almost had a couple accidents bc of this).
