I also have this problem! Is yours a GDI too?

When it's cold like it has been for the last couple of weeks, it will turn over just fine, but will not fire up.

The only way I can get it to start is by using liberal doses of Cold Start spray in the air filter.

Last year I cleaned out the throttle body due to a different issue (stalling) which also seemed to fix the starting, although it wasn't as cold by then. I'll take that out over the weekend and give it a proper clean see if that helps any.

The other thing I did last year was replace the spark plugs - didn't make any difference.

Any idea what could be the cause of this - could it be a bad battery, although it seems strong enough and will start the car with enough cold start in there, and there is no problem when it's not cold!

I know there's a temperature sensor in the air intake - could this be related?

I don't know what mechanism the carsima GDi uses to start in the cold, does it just somehow increase the fuel/air ratio? If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them.

cheers

Hi,
I also have the GDI from -98 and just discovered that it won't start.
So you think it's because of the cold!? Interesting thought. The only thing for me though is that I've had it in way more cold weather than what we currently have here ( 0 to -7 celcius ), and it has worked just fine. Very strange.

I'll try the cold start spray trick and see if that works.

Best Regards
