okay so me and one of my friends are in his SER Specv and were cruising on the hw and we pull up to an older trans am. from the looks at it we thought it would be a fun race.. well it turned out it wasn't a race at all.. it was him toying with us the whole time..

we pull up next to him and we rev the motor at him, and this is a guy that looks like he is in his late 30's early 40's, he nods at us so we line up next to each other going 60 and we honk 3 times. on the third honk we take off and it looked like we would smoke him.. then all the sudden you hear this roaring of a motor and he zooms by us and when he shifts you can hear a BOV.. both me and my friend look at each other and we say OH ****! at the same time..

so the trans am slows down and gets next to us and this time we slow down to 40.. well that pretty much didn't help us at all. he is smiling now and we honk three times again,, this time he lets us go a little and he is just cruising behind us with ease.. we get up to 130 and he pulls up next to us and we are freaking out because his car is fast as ****. to add insult to our lose he starts tapping the gas and bouncing his front end up and down.. and keep in mind we are going 130. :(

once he does this for like 10 seconds he floors it and took off.. he told us he was going 160 then he slowed down, took and exit after waving us over, and pulled into a gas station. we pull up next to him and he gets out and said that was pretty fun. me and my friend were still in disbelief and we asked him what he was running in the 1/4. well he told us he was running under 11 on a bad day.. this about made me **** my pants.

i will no longer race older cars unless i hear them rev it up all the way, just to make sure they aren't turbo'd

losing to this guy so bad inspired my friend to buy a t3/4 turbonetics turbo kit for his SER Specv which wouldn't make him beat this guy but it wouldn't be as embarrising.

from now on any car i get ima turbo that ****..

im glad i have a GST

Ummm... what were you thinking??? A trans am is a beast of a car. How could that even be a race to start with? Why would you race an older muscle car to begin with?

Sorry to sound like a jerk, but it just seems ludacris to even attempt it.

Amen man. Don't me me wrong either, but the v8 power (not to mention an added turbo) of a classic american muscle on the straight away is not to be messed with. I mean... dayum... lol

I was assume its the big block :/

Was it the GT with an aftermarket turbo? or the wimpy engine plus a turbo?

Either way, they are fun cars.

I've beaten my fair share of muscle cars:

69 Cougar 351
70 Duster 340
68 Mustang 289
and a plethora of newer mustangs, (granted, I've also taken a beating from the more heavily modified Mustangs)

I agree, a trans am is def a fast a$$ car. But I'd race him. My neighbor has the fire hawk (not sure what he's done to it, but I know its far from stock). Jesus that car is ridiculous. Thats one car i wouldn't mess with, ever, regardless of what I'm driving.

i know im beating a dead horse (and my name don't help either) and i mean no disrespect but this is what i have been trying to tell you guys... muscle cars (especially forced induction ones) are in a class of there own, don't get me wrong newer ricers are awesome cars too but its simple physics, there is absolutely no replacement for displacement.... BTW having forced induction aka turbo's is basically increasing the displacement so thats why you can get higher hp with turbo.... higher volumetric efficiency..

all the best man! :57:

The only replacement for cubic inches is cubic money lol. You can make a 4 cylinder car run 7 sec 1/4 mile times, if you spend enough money on it.

Two mistakes happened here, both based on underestimating what you were facing.

1- the car you faced has an obscene amount of horsepower. Same thing as wanting to race a Police Interceptor. You may take off faster but you will NOT win against a car that can sustain speeds of 140mph+ all day.

2-Even more important mistake (which I see very day). Any driver like myself who is older, say over 40, learned to drive in the late 70's when cars were monsters and horsepower was insane. Cars then could, and did, reach 200mph if well tuned.
These people, like myself, also have more driving years under their belts than many of you. Sorry to sound rude but Experience Does Count. There were also some driving courses back then that are no longer offered.

3-Put an old school driver with 30 years or so driving skill in a modern well tuned car and see what happens... better train a lot to match that.

Just the facts guys, sorry about how it sounds. So if you see a grey-haired guy at a meet dont underestimate why he's there. He just has more mileage, and may still know a few tricks ;) Pick his brains.

I raced a mid 80's v6 trans am/Iroc from a stoplight up to about 45 mph and beat it in my gs. It was a couple highschoolers who either couldnt drive very well or had a hunk of crap under the hood.

I'm glad you said something! Sure, muscle cars can have a **** load of hp and torque, but that doent mean they cantbe wasted by an import. Take my best friend for example. He has a 95 Prelude Si V-TEC. It's the rare one between the Si and the V-TEC. He does not have it turboed or any MAJOR mods. Just the usual stuff. He's wasted a guy in a 500+ hp mustang, a Chevelle SS, along with many more. He's even almost beat a guy in a boosted 94 SUPRA!!! He only lost by half a car! Yes, muscle cars may look and sound scary and may be able to leave you choking in the dust, but they are not invincable by any means.

I call BS. I have a 300hp mustang that will run a high 12-low 13.... there is no way a prelude is gonna run with me without some serious modification. Sorry.

Don't BS unless you know what you are talking about and can make it sound somewhat believable.

It is not BS. I saw it with my own eyes and the guy talked to use later and said that he wasnt going easy. My friends prelude is freakin fast. It is possible. Thats the last I'm going to say for this post. I will not get into a heated debate with people that think muscle is unbeatable.

Muscle is beatable. boost = muscle kryptonite. vtec =/= muscle kryptonite.

Muscle > Boost > Vtec

Boost is not muscle kryptonite, especially since the Supra TT, VR-4, and 300zx all have more hp than my Mach1 and all still lose in the 1/4 mile. Not one of them can go as fast in top speed.

My brother in law has a 2000 Turbo Civic SI and he can't keep up with me. He is running about 235-245 whp, and he still cant beat me. There is no way a prelude could even touch a turbo SI. A prelude weighs more, has bad weight distribution, and handles like a boat compared to an SI.

There are cars out there that can beat me, porsches, corvettes, even some lightly modded V6TT's. But there is no stock prelude, eclipse, or even supra for that matter that can win against a real car.
