Can anyone tell me what these three fault codes are for a 2.0 GDi Shogun Pinin 2001 please.

P1226 / P0228 / P0308

No problem, P01226 - throttle control unit incorrectly coded (faulty unit). P0228 - throttle position sensor/accelerator pedal position sensor high input. I dont get the next, P0308 - cylinder 8 misfire detected????? Hope this helps -batfink

Thanks Batfink.

My Mitsubishi dealer says I need an engine decoke to get rid of the 3rd cylinder misfire. Not sure how he can tell that from a fault code alone. He says its a common problem on this car / engine. He wants to charge me £450 for the pleasure. Anyone have any experience of this? any advice ?

I'll check the plugs.

If it is coked up any ideas on treatments etc ?

Try using some carb. cleaner, use it liberally, while keeping revs up. Then change spark plugs. Modern engines dont need de-cokes unless they are very high milage and have been abused. Wouldnt surprise me if Mitsu dealer de-coke is simply cleaning throttle body as above.

generally a decoke is only required if you have erratic idle or stalling due to carbon build up.before this is carried out,removal of the throttle body is recommended and a thorough cleaning with intake cleaner commenced(do not use carb cleaner as it can harm some throttle bodies) some of the gdi engines with magnetic throttle bodies have the magnetic side go faulty causing some of the fault codes you mentioned.problem is the throttle body unit id very dear.best solution is remove the throttle body and see how bad it is.this gives a good indication of what the intake is like.normally carbon build up does not trip fault codes unless it has very bad driving symptoms.good luck

If your problems persist I would highly recommend contacting bba-reman, specialist automotive engineers, at bba-reman.com . They recondition all vehicle electronics (throttle bodies , e.c.u.'s, dash, etc) and are very helpful. They offer free technical help on their forum. p.s carb cleaner a generic term for an intake system cleaner, safely used daily in my job!!!!
